About

The Sudbury Indoor Tennis Club is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote active living and enhance the social and physical well-being of its members by maintaining an excellent tennis facility and providing affordable tennis to all ages and play levels in a safe, friendly and sporting environment.

Indoor tennis started back in the 1980’s in Sudbury. The first bubble went up on the Alder street courts on December 20, 1992. Jim Richardson supervised the building of the bubble footings, the enclosed ramp access and the furnace and blower pads. A ‘new’ insulated bubble was erected in 2000. Joanne and Ron Petit, Jim Richardson & Frank Bell played the first match that December. The official ribbon cutting occurred in January 1993. The loan from members was payed off in 1999 and the ‘mortgage’ was burned. Jim Richardson and Ray Savignac won OTA doubles tournaments across the province 13 times. “Leo the Legend” Ptaszynski was 81 and played tennis and coached juniors up until his sudden death Dec 23, 2005.

Change Room

The club has four indoor courts located in an insulated bubble. The courts were resurfaced in 2016. The facility has proper LED court lighting, is heated in the winter and air conditioned in the summer. A fifth outdoor court is available for summer use. Men’s and women’s change rooms with showers as well as a small lounge are also available for member’s use.
